Our Mission & These Guidelines
ElectPolling is a private, neutral technology platform for civic engagement and political discussion. These Community Guidelines establish the conduct standards required of all users. They are incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service and are legally binding. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, permanent ban, and in cases of illegal conduct, referral to appropriate law enforcement authorities.
These Guidelines apply globally and are designed to comply with the laws of all jurisdictions in which the Platform is used, including but not limited to the United States, United Kingdom, European Union member states, Nigeria, Canada, and Australia.
1. Respect & Civil Discourse
- Treat all users with dignity β Disagree with ideas, not with personal attacks on individuals
- No harassment or bullying β Do not engage in sustained, targeted, or repeated negative behaviour toward any individual
- No hate speech β Content that attacks, dehumanizes, or calls for discrimination against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or similar characteristics is strictly prohibited and may violate laws in multiple jurisdictions
- No threats or incitement to violence β Making threats against any person or group, or inciting others to commit violence, is prohibited and will be referred to law enforcement
- Respect diverse political viewpoints β Political diversity is fundamental to democracy; engagement must be in good faith
2. Truthfulness & Information Integrity
- Do not spread misinformation β Deliberately sharing known false information, particularly about voting procedures, election results, candidates' positions, or public health matters, is prohibited
- Cite credible sources β Support factual claims with verifiable evidence
- Do not fabricate quotes or statements β Attributing false statements to real persons is defamatory and may be illegal
- Clearly label opinion β Distinguish clearly between factual claims and personal opinion
- Correct errors promptly β If you share inaccurate information, acknowledge and correct it
- Disclose affiliations β Be transparent about your relationship to candidates, parties, or campaigns
3. Electoral Integrity
- No voter intimidation or suppression β Any conduct designed to prevent eligible persons from participating in elections is strictly prohibited and illegal in all jurisdictions we serve
- No false election information β Do not post false information about polling dates, locations, eligibility requirements, or procedures for any official election
- Comply with campaign finance laws β All political advertising and campaign activities must comply with applicable disclosure and authorization laws. ElectPolling polls are non-binding and are NOT official election results.
- No foreign interference β Do not engage in or facilitate foreign interference in any nation's democratic processes
- Platform results are non-official β ElectPolling data must not be misrepresented as official electoral results
4. Privacy & Personal Information
- No doxxing β Do not post private personal information (home addresses, phone numbers, personal email addresses, financial information, ID numbers) about any individual without their consent
- No unauthorized surveillance β Do not post content obtained through illegal surveillance, hacking, or unauthorized access to private communications
- Respect others' privacy β Do not share intimate images or private content of others without consent (non-consensual intimate imagery is illegal in many jurisdictions)
- Protect minors β Do not post any information or content that could identify, expose, or put children at risk
5. Authenticity & Identity
- No impersonation β Do not create accounts or post content falsely claiming to be another person, candidate, official, organization, or public figure. Satire and parody must be clearly and unambiguously labeled.
- No fake accounts β Each user must maintain only one account representing their true identity (or authorized organizational account)
- No coordinated inauthentic behavior β Do not engage in or coordinate networks of fake or manipulated accounts to artificially influence opinion
- No bots without disclosure β Automated accounts must be clearly identified as such
6. Prohibited Content
The following content is absolutely prohibited and will result in immediate removal and may result in account termination and referral to authorities:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any sexual content involving minors
- Content promoting, glorifying, or facilitating terrorism, genocide, or mass violence
- Content that facilitates human trafficking or exploitation
- Content promoting illegal weapons, drugs, or other prohibited items
- Malware, phishing, or other malicious content
- Non-consensual intimate images ("revenge porn")
- Content that violates applicable export control laws
- Spam, unsolicited bulk messaging, or pyramid/multi-level marketing schemes
7. Intellectual Property
- Respect copyright β Only post content you own or have permission to share. Using others' copyrighted material without authorization is prohibited.
- No trademark infringement β Do not use trademarks, logos, or brand names in ways that could confuse or mislead users
- Report infringement β Use our DMCA/copyright reporting process to flag infringing content
8. Campaign Standards
- Authorized representatives only β Only create campaigns if you are the candidate or have documented authorization from the candidate
- Full legal compliance β Campaign activities must comply with election laws, campaign finance regulations, and advertising disclosure requirements in your jurisdiction
- Accurate representations β All campaign information must be truthful; misrepresenting qualifications, positions, or endorsements is prohibited
- Financial transparency β Any fundraising activities must comply with applicable laws and platform policies
- No paid undisclosed promotion β Sponsored content and paid promotions must be clearly identified as advertising
9. Reporting Violations
- Report violations β Use the report function on any content you believe violates these Guidelines
- Do not abuse reporting β Filing false or bad-faith reports to suppress legitimate political speech is itself a violation of these Guidelines
- Good faith cooperation β Cooperate with our moderation team when contacted about reported content
- Emergency situations β If you believe content poses an imminent threat to life, contact local emergency services immediately and then report to us
10. Enforcement & Consequences
We enforce these Guidelines at our sole discretion. Violations may result in one or more of the following, depending on severity and context:
- Warning (for minor or first-time violations)
- Content removal or editing
- Feature restrictions (e.g., limited posting or messaging)
- Temporary suspension
- Permanent account termination without refund
- Loss of campaign or verification status
- Referral to law enforcement or relevant authorities for illegal content
- Civil legal action for damages caused to the Platform or other users
We do not guarantee equal enforcement in all cases; context, severity, intent, and impact are all considered. We reserve the right to take different actions for similar violations based on context. Our enforcement decisions are final, though you may submit an appeal through our designated process.
Appeals: If you believe action was taken in error, you may submit an appeal within 30 days of the action through our support channels. We will review in good faith but our final decision is binding.
11. Platform Neutrality
ElectPolling does not endorse any candidate, political party, policy position, or ideology. Our moderation policies are applied consistently regardless of political viewpoint. We are committed to providing a neutral platform for legitimate political expression across the political spectrum, subject to these Guidelines and our Terms of Service.
12. Changes to Guidelines
We may update these Guidelines as laws, technologies, and community needs evolve. Material changes will be communicated through the Platform. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
